Hiking trails

It is common to see groups of people walking along the island’s trails using poles. On marked or free-form trails, hiking promotes the observation of our surroundings and thus encourages us to get to know the local natural riches such as fauna, flora, geology, and ethnography, when the community is also involved. This much sought-after activity on Faial contributes in a playful and healthy way to the respect for nature and local identity. The island’s trails include a route that crosses the island from East to West for 37 km.
