Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre

The Capelinhos Volcano originated from a submarine eruption on September 27, 1957 and was active for 13 months. It is one of the most paradigmatic volcanoes in the world, presenting to this day an inhospitable landscape. It is part of Faial Nature Park and classified as a Protected Area for the Management of Habitats or Species, given its great geological, biological and landscape value.

Visiting the Interpretation Centre is essential to learn about the origin and evolution of the Capelinhos Volcano, in addition to the history of the archipelago of the Azores, from a geological perspective.

A visita ao Centro de Interpretação é fundamental para conhecermos a génese e evolução do vulcão dos Capelinhos assim como a história geológica da formação do arquipélago dos Açores.
